Good morning! A most blessed day to you. It is such a joy to be here in the first devotional for 2022. I am so excited to get into this new year of spiritual growth and development and see where God leads us during these times of devotion together. So, let’s jump right in.

We’re going to tackle an interesting topic that came up recently. I was praying with someone, and it was mentioned that I am a good one to pray with because I have a closer access with God. I said, “Of course not, that’s not so. I don’t have any closer access to God than anyone else”!

We are all called to pray as his children. We all have equal access to the Lord. I was asked to teach on that but instead of doing a full adult education on it, we’re going to address it right now. In this time of wonderful devotion, What a way to start with this first one of 2022: To have a word that says you have access to God. We’re going to get deeper into that in just a moment… but I want to say the first reason that you can know that I don’t have any greater access to God than you do, is that I too am a sinner. Just like every other human being ever born or whoever will be born. I’ll reference the third chapter of Romans. I’ll take a second here to suggest that if you do not have this scripture marked in your Bible, please do so. It goes directly to the heart of our sinful nature, of our justification and why we are all in the same boat together.

Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote in Romans 3:10-

“There is no one who is righteous, not even one; there is no one who has understanding, there is no one who seeks God.” So, no one, not even one, is righteous. We are all born into a sinful nature. And because of that, none of us seek after God. Remember, He is shepherd who seeks His sheep, so none of us are righteous. In verse 23 Paul goes on to say: “Since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are now justified by grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a sacrifice of atonement by his blood, effective through faith”.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We are all in that sin boat together. And yet, we all, by the grace of God have forgiveness through the blood of Jesus Christ. It is effective through faith. So if I ask you “Do you believe the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”? and your answer is “Yes, I believe” and I then ask you “Do you believe that Jesus Christ, his only son died for your sins and was resurrected triumphant over sin, death and the devil”? and you say “Yes”, your faith is effective .The redemption of Christ for you is effective.

It happened. It is happening. You are forgiven, and in that forgiveness, by the atonement by the blood of Jesus Christ, you have access to God. You have been given the exact same access that I’ve been given, that Pastor Eibel has been given, that the Pastor before him has been given and so on and so forth all the way back to Peter, Paul, John and all of those who had lived and walked with Jesus Christ.

We have the same access to the Father because we have the same redemption. We are justified by the blood of Jesus Christ. That is the good news for us to begin our new year. You have access to the Father. You can pray to him at any time, in any place. Anywhere, you can turn to the Father in prayer. He hears you. He answers you. And he loves you. There is no hierarchical structure within the body of Christ insofar as who has or does not have access to the Father, We all have access to God. We are all in the same boat, able to speak with the Father at any time, confident because we speak to the righteousness that is ours by Jesus Christ.

I pray that this is a wonderful word for you. That you will be able to share this with someone in your life. That you will go to the Father confident in complete access to him through Jesus.

Let’s pray now. Lord Father we thank you so much. We thank you not that by our own works, not by our own ideas, not by our earthly positions do we gain access to the Father. But by you and you alone. We thank you that you have redeemed us by the blood of Jesus Christ. We thank you that you have called us to believe by the Holy Spirit. We thank you that we can speak to you, praying to, communicating with you at any time because of your love for us. Lord, we ask that you bless this new year as we move forward. That you make it a year in which we are attentive and focused on your will for our lives. That we are attentive and focused on communicating with you. That we are attentive and focused on the needs of others around us. Lord, we thank you and we praise you and give you all the glory for calling us to yourself and for forgiving our sins and giving us access to you. We pray all in the awesome name of Jesus Christ! Amen.

I look so forward to worshipping with you this Sunday. God Bless!
