Good Morning, and a blessed Thursday morning to you!

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve; such a wonderful day in the life of the church isn't it?  We enter into the glorious, wonderful Christmas season. We are going to have three worship services: 3:00, 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. And as usual, the service will be recorded and distributed as soon as possible, most likely later evening on Christmas Eve.

If we look at our Lord there are several titles associated with him.  There of course is the title of Christ, that means Messiah. There's the title, Lord.  There was also Jesus's favorite title, Son of Man.  An Intriguing title is found in the Gospel of John the first chapter verse 1.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

The “Word” here, of course, is Jesus.  So, we see the title of Christ, the title of Lord, the title of Son of Man, and here in the Gospel of John, the title Word.  Why is Jesus called the Word?  I think of a parent turning to a child who is perhaps troubled by something.  And the parent says to the child, “You just talk with me.” Because as words are shared, we know the other person's thoughts. We know their feelings.

Let's go to Hebrews, the first chapter verse one.

“Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son…”

Jesus is called the Word because God speaks to us through the second member of the Trinity, Jesus Christ.

Going back now to the Gospel of John, the first chapter verse 14 through 18....

“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.  (John testified to him and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’”)  From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.  The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.  No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.”

The Word (Jesus)... the Father speaks through the Word, and we know who God is.  We know what he's like.  We know how he feels toward us.  The Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, the second member of the Holy Trinity, born to die for our sins. We are redeemed by the blood of the Lord Jesus, the Word. The Lord Jesus Christ, the second member of the Holy Trinity, born to be raised, overcoming death.  Thanks be to God for his goodness, and for his grace. Thanks be to God that he keeps his promises, the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Word - what a glorious title!

Let's pray.  Gracious Heavenly Father, with anticipation we look forward to entering into the Christmas season, and we praise you for your goodness and for your grace. Jesus known as the Christ; Jesus known as Lord;  Jesus known as the Son of Man; Jesus known as the Word, we praise you.  We adore you!  Thanks be to you for your goodness and for your grace. In Jesus name, Amen.

As we enter into this great season let's encourage one another in love and proclaim the Word - Jesus Christ.   God bless!
